After only a few days on the job, newly appointed Prime Minister Winston Churchill of Great Britain gave this riveting, yet short, speech in the House of Commons on May 13, 1940. In this speech Churchill offers up his own "blood, toil, tears, and sweat" so that there will be "victory at all costs." This speech has become well known as the first of many morale boosting speeches made by Churchill.
Read the speech that Winston Churchill made at the following link- http://www.historyplace.com/speeches/churchill.htm

-Name and explain 3 key points you see in the speech that would have motivated the British to keep fighting against a seemingly invincible enemy- Nazi Germany.
-Comment on a post left by someone else. Take a stance of either you agree or disagree with what they wrote and describe why.

I think this speech would have motivated the British to fight the Nazis because, as Churchhill said, if they do not, it will mean the end of their government, and also the end of the goals of mankind, to move forward and improve. Also, Churchhill emphasizes that they will not be alone in their battle, because everyone will have to unite and fight together.

I agree with your comment because it has almost the same key points as mine. & that they don't want to be run by the Germans, knowing what they were doing to their own citizens.

I think that the 3 key points to making them want to fight were when he said no survival for the british empire. i think this motivated the nazis. This also said that winston churchill stood up for what he believed in. I also think it was a really great speech. I liked it.

I disagree, because this speech was meant to motivate the British to fight the Nazis. The fact that he said there would be no survival for the British was meant to motivate the British to fight, because if they didn't, they would not survive.

He's saying without victory there is no survival; no survival for the British Empire. His quote "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat" meaning that he will fight for the British Empire doesn't matter if he gets killed or injured.

The main points in this speech are a war cabinet was formed, they are taking place in one of the greatest battles in history, and that they have been suffering for many months. They made a war cabinet to organize the defense. This was one of the biggest battles of history and brought nothing but blood. Finally they have been suffering for many many months from the Nazis. This speech made the people fight harder then they have before.

I think that what Winston did was inspiring to all because it made people believe that we could go against him

"I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat."

"We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering."

"Come then, let us go forward together with our united strength."

I don['t know about you but all of those quotes would inspire me to do something

this was a very emotional piece, the way the British fought with the Nazis, or the government well fall, also when he said "without victory there is no survival" that was very true, my last key point is fighting has no end war never ends war well always go on, but there was a battle that was very bloody on both sides, and now they look back and they say this was really bad and they just wanna forget it.

Winston church hills speech show that he believes in his people that they can win the war against the Nazis. I believe in his speech that the only way that they can win is if the stick together. '' It will take blood sweat and tears''. I also thanked it took someone very inspiring to have his people believe that they can win the war.

1.Its one of the greatest battles in history and they want to win it, to say that they won the greatest battles.
2. They have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering. They don't want to struggle and suffer anymore
3. There were no survival for all that the British Empire has stood for and they wanted to stand for something
Those are the 3 reasons why the British kept fighting

One of the three key points that help excite the British to fight against the Nazi was when Churchill said, "With all the strength god gave us," so he believes that he is getting strength from higher powers to take down a much larger and much more equipped army. Another point made by Churchill was: "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat." Meaning, he can't promise anyone to actually survive the battle, but he can offer all of these things if everyone was to just try and fight. I think the key point that got the most excitement out of was the quote "You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: victory; victory at all costs," so it is basically telling all of his followers that they must win, and they WILL win.

When he says: "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat." It makes you want to keep fighting on. You have a duty a right, and it makes you feel so powerful. Also when he says: "You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: victory; victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival." it makes them feel inspired. When Winston Churchill talks he is very inspiring and motivating. When Churchill ends his speech with: "I feel sure that our cause will not be suffered to fail among men. At this time I feel entitled to claim the aid of all, and I say, 'Come then, let us go forward together with our united strength.'" it makes you want to go out there and fight. Fight the battle with all you've got. Never give up. And that is what they did.

I think how Churchill said that all he has to offer is his blood, toil, tears and sweat to the government. Which would motivate the germans to keep on fighting, knowing that their leader will stand up for them. He also was saying "come then, let us go forward together with our united strength." That motivated the germans too because he is motivating them that they will fight together and work together to fight for their country. The last key point is fighting for victory. He is saying that the reason to win is to fight for the country and for their victory. That is their aim to win the war.

Three key Points in the Speech:

-That with out victory a lot more would be at harm than just losing. Lives and future plans of moving forward we will be lost as well.

-Forming five Members, representing, with the Liberal Opposition, the unity of the nation will appeal to people who do and don't like the government.

-"I will say: It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us." This is something said to insure better chances of winning, giving the British something to win for, hope for!

1) "I will say: It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us; to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crime."
Churchill explained to them what they need to use to push them on. He gave them motivation through telling them they can do anything through God.
2) "I can answer in one word: victory; victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival. Let that be realized; no survival for the British Empire, no survival for all that the British Empire has stood for, no survival for the urge and impulse of the ages, that mankind will move forward towards its goal. But I take up my task with buoyancy and hope. I feel sure that our cause will not be suffered to fail among men. At this time I feel entitled to claim the aid of all, and I say, "Come then, let us go forward together with our united strength."
Churchill told them they need hope to get victory. He is pushing them on by showing that he believes in them that they can win.
3) "Sir, to form an Administration of this scale and complexity is a serious undertaking in itself, but it must be remembered that we are in the preliminary stage of one of the greatest battles in history, that we are in action at many points in Norway and in Holland, that we have to be prepared in the Mediterranean, that the air battle is continuous and that many preparations have to be made here at home."
He is telling them that they are ready. They have the power. They have the strength. They are ready to fight and to win.
