Introduction
A main question we will be asking as we explore this year in Social Studies is 'How does where we live, influence how we live?' One of the main aspects of the earth that helps us answer the question are physical features of the earth's surface. Many of the answers depends on our perspective. During this webquest we are going to: 1. Create digital scrapbook that defines landforms.
2. Create a Map that describes how the physical features help us answer the question, 'How does where we live, influence how we live?
Task
Remember you have two main tasks:
1) Create a Scrapbook with actual pictures of the Physical Features.
2) Create a map identifying where the Physical Features can be found on the earth and describe how where we live impacts how we live.
By completing this WebQuest, you should achieve the following goals: 1) be able to define an identify physical features; 2) use the power of the Internet for advanced exploration; 3) use the internet to collaborate on a finished product; 4) realize that where we live influences how we live; 5) formulate and support an opinion based on your perspectives and knowledge
Process
-First Create your Digital Scrap Book using the provided webpages. You will create a new page under assignments on your weebly website.
-Second each person should then work on their map in Smart Notebook Map.
Phase 1 - Background Information
These sites are important because they will provide basic information about the topic as a whole. Everyone should explore these sites before starting your tasks.
Define the 20 Physical Features:
Use these websites to find definitions of 20 physical features. You must define the 15 physical features listed below and then select five on your own from the websites that you would enjoy learning more about.

•Archipelago
•Gulf
•Canyon
•Strait
•Plateau
•River Mouth
•Delta
•Glacier
•Island
•Mountain Range
•Channel
•Desert
Become a world travelers and create a scrapbook of Physical Features.:
Create a Scrapbook of pictures of the twenty physical features you defined.
-Use paragraph with picture drop down on your weebly website.
-Your pictures must be of actual Physical Features found on the earth.
-Label the Physical Features
-Place finished product on your weebly website when finished.
Create a map of the Physical Features and their impacts.:
Directions:
1. Download the Smart notebook physical map link below to your computer
2. Save the file to your computer aslastnamefirstinitial_physicalmap
3. Open the map and find 5 physical features and label those featureson the map with a star and a text label. Check the example for what it should look like. You can find the starwhen you click on the 3rd pen. It will pop up different options and one of those is a star.
4. Then find a picture of the physical feature on theInternet. Make sure that you arelooking at the full size image of the picture.
5. Copy the URL of that full size image
6. Go back to your smart notebook map and click on the star so ithas the box around it.
7. Click insert then click link
8. Paste the URL in the address box and then click on the objectbox then click insert link.
9. Repeat steps 4 through 8 for the other 4 physical features.
-For each of the 5 physical features write a 4 sentence description on how each feature impacts our life.
Phase 3 - Reaching Consensus
Browse another students map.
-Identify two perspectives on how where people live impacts how people live that you agree with.
-Identify two perspectives on how where people live impacts how people live that you disagree with and write down how you believe they can be made better.
Conclusion
So is it hard to live in a desert? A mountain? A plain? Is one geograhic feature easier to live by than others? It all comes down to perspective. Being able to look at concepts from a variety of perspectives will help us in our study of cultures and conflicts throughout the world.
